c) a student who has completed a regular course of study for class IX and has passed class IX examination from an institution recognized by/affiliated to any recognized Board in India can be admitted to a school affiliated to this Board only on the transfer of the parent(s) or shifting of their families from one place to another, after procuring from the student the mark sheet and the Transfer Certificate duly countersigned by the Educational Authorities of the Board concerned

(i) As the syllabus prescribed at Senior level is of two years integrated course, no admission shall be taken in class XII directly. Provided further that admission to Class XII in a school shall be open only to such a student who:

a) has completed a regular course of study for Class XI and has passed class XI examination from an institution affiliated to this Board.

b) has completed a regular course of study for class XI and has passed class XI examination from an institution affiliated to this Board and migrating from/within one city/state to another only on the transfer of the parent(s) or shifting of their families from one place to another, after procuring from the student the mark sheet and the Transfer Certificate duly countersigned by the Board; and

c) has completed a regular course of study for class XI and has passed class XI examination from an institution recognized by/affiliated to any recognized Board in India can be admitted to a school affiliated to this Board only on the transfer of the parent(s) or shifting of their families from one place to another, after procuring from the student the mark sheet and the Transfer Certificate duly countersigned by the Educational Authorities of the Board concerned.

Notwithstanding anything contained in the rules above,

The chairman shall have the powers to allow change of school for better academic performance, medical reasons etc. to avoid undue hardship to the candidate(s).

The board is extremely transparent about the way they go about affiliation. If you have nothing to hide than it is absolutely smooth sailing. The entire process of CBSE affiliation is online and one doesn’t have to go Delhi office or doesn’t have to talk to anyone to apply. There is a stage-wise process about which the user is informed periodically online. The process is made extremely easy by the board. A great help for people looking to start schools.

2. Modern

The CBSE is changing and constantly upgrading themselves and asking schools to do the same, now their versatile working covers almost all aspects of school and thereby education quality. Quizzing – How can we encourage quizzing in schools

Quizzing is one of the most positive addictions and great fun. People who quiz regularly become more observant over a period of time. Quizzers analyse, observe and remember trivia, data, figures and facts. Any child exposed to joys of quizzing should go on to possess an inquisitive brain and a powerful memory. This post is about how we can develop quizzing at the school level. Here are some of the ideas and some are still to be put into practice –

(1) Start a Quiz Club
Just like Maths Club, English Literature Club, Painting or Music. Quizzing should be treated as a hobby. A couple of classes on any given day of the week should be dedicated to quizzing. Students can be divided into groups and one group should take the responsibility of conducting the quiz. Teachers should make sure to tell them what goes into making good quiz questions, type of rounds, Negative marking rules, etc. Make sure the class is equipped with various multimedia devices for the question to become interesting.

(2) A question a day
The class teacher can share with students one trivia every day. This could be from any sphere ranging from economics, business, politics, academics or movies etc. The teacher can further go on to write the question on the board or the bulletin board within the classroom.

(3) The Quiz Box
We have tried this at our school at SNBP International School. A DROP-BOX could be erected on the wall, with the provision of space on the box or around the box where the question could be displayed. The positioning of the box should be at the most visited corner of the school for maximum visibility. The students who know the answer can drop in their answers with their names and classes mention on the paper chit. After screening the answers, one lucky winner could be awarded by a draw of luck method during the school assembly.

(4) Quiz Competitions
This is a no-brainer and is oft used method to encourage quizzing. One could make this interesting by giving a hint about the topics a few days before the quiz.

(5) The Thesaurus Quiz Board
Though a little outdated in the world of Google, but a bulletin board in the school could be put up where students can pin any question which they could not find an answer to. The teacher will collect those and will find answers and answer the same during the school assembly.

School Library Activities – Involve, Innovate and Ignite the reading habit

Library classes/time should be the most important part /class/period in a school’s curriculum, but sadly this gets sidelined across a lot of schools and is also categorized under the second priority when it comes to course completion and other activities. Thankfully some emphasis has come through extra reading evaluation started by CCE, but still a hell lot is still to be done. A lot of work can be done in junior classes to make them interested in reading. At our school we have been working on this, I am listing down my 5 favourite activities we have been trying to do with the students.

1. Building the story Pyramid

Each of the students given a book, like a small mostly pictorial in nature along with some text. The student reads it and later is given a worksheet to describe the book in the form of a pyramid.

Line 1 — one word, stating the name of the main character

Line 2 — two words, describing the main character

Line 3 — three words, describing the setting

Line 4 — four words, stating the problem

Line 5 — five words, describing one event

Line 6 — six words, describing a second event

Line 7 — seven words, describing the third event

Line 8 — eight words, stating the solution to the problem

2. A permanent section in the school student’s almanac

For the entire year, we have created a permanent section in the almanac for the teacher/librarian.Student/parent to track the list of books they have read during the entire year. This is supplemented by a worksheet or by a group discussion after reading each of the books where students talk about the following aspects of the book;

What have they read

Who is the author

The idea in the story

Does it happen in real life

3. Train journey in the school library

Students are asked to make a train with one behind the other, the librarian becomes the engine. The train stops at all major landmarks within the library. The various section inside the library like Newspaper, Magazine, Biographies, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Encyclopedia, General Books, Reference books, Audio Visual corner. This way the students get an idea of what is in store for them.

4. Locating my Favourite Fairy Tale Book

Students are given ideas about fairy tale stories and are asked to go and search the book in the library. Once they have found and read it. They are asked to fill in details on the worksheet which are as follows;

  • Who is the author?
  • Accession/ Call number of the book.
  • In which section was it kept.
  • Draw an illustration of the lead character on the page.

5. Quiz

This one is simple, students are first told about the encyclopedias and information stored in them, Students are then divided into groups and each of the group is given an encyclopedia. The teacher throws different question to different question which is housed inside their respective encyclopedia. The teams have to find the answers, the fastest group wins the contest.

There are many more ideas in terms of the worksheet which can be done, but there is also a fear of converting the library into another class. Anyway, I hope the librarians can derive some joy out of the activities listed above.
